While in custody of U.S. soldiers, Mangas protested his guards heating their bayonets and then burning his feet as he
slept. They did not listen for long, as they soon shot him repeatedly and scalped him. Then they beheaded the body to boil it in
order to sell his skull to a phrenologist. The body was dumped in a ditch. |
